Forty-three years on the same art
Sifu Gilbert Leal opened Dragon Martial Arts in 1983 — the first Wing Tsun school in San Antonio — and has taught in the city continuously ever since. In their own words, the school offers classes in Wing Chun Kung Fu to children and adults in a relaxed and friendly family atmosphere.
It is not a franchise and it is not a tournament team. One of their students put it better than any marketing line could: “There are all types of people there, and it really feels like a family…not just a school.”

What you will be learning
Wing Chun Kung Fu
Wing Chun is a system of southern Chinese Kung Fu which specializes in close range combat. It was created nearly 200 years ago by a Buddhist nun from the legendary Shaolin Temple. The nun later taught her system to a young girl named Yim Wing Chun. The name Wing Tsun translates as ‘Beautiful Springtime.’

Sifu Gilbert Leal
Sifu — Chinese for teacher — Gilbert Leal began training in 1970 and opened Dragon Martial Arts in 1983. He was one of Grandmaster Leung Ting’s first American students, and the sixth American to be granted the rank of Primary Level Technician. Over the next forty years he was accepted as a student by five martial arts grandmasters, and in 2015 was awarded the rank of 5th Level Master Instructor in Wing Tsun Kung Fu.
